Description
Mrs.Miniver NOW HAS AN eBay STORE!! JUST click here * * * * *   Up for sale is a one of the most important and RAREST Movie Posters of all time - An ORIGINAL 1974 Young Frankenstein 7-Sheet (91x81 inches) Out-Of- Home Movie Poster!!!   This poster is THE ONLY KNOWN ORIGINAL! This 1-Of-A-Kind poster was originally owned by the famous poster artist John Alvin:   John Alvin is considered THE most important contemporary poster artist. He is responsible for creating some of the most memorable posters of all time such as the Walt Disney classics Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin and The Lion King. John Alvin has also created the classic one sheets for Blazing Saddles, Blade Runner, Fritz the Cat, Batman Returns, The E.T. advance one sheet, Phantom of the Paradise, and dozens of other classics including "The Holy Grail" of Star Wars posters - The famous John Williams Concert Poster. His work has been displayed at the Smithsonian and feature stories on his art have appeared in the Los Angles Times and The Daily News.   The Seven -Sheet: An out-of-home poster display primarily used in the mid-1970s. Out-of-home means outdoor print advertising: billboards, kiosks, sunshelters, etc. Also includes other venues accessible to the public: malls, airports, transit systems, supermarkets, toy stores, etc. Distribution, format and sizes of out-of-home movie posters are separate from those displayed at theaters. The out-of-home media industry requires studios to rent display space whereas movie theaters do not. Seven -sheets were used in urban neighborhoods. Often confused with theatrical six -sheets. Intended for domestic use.   This is clearly one of the elite movie posters of all time. It really doesn't get any rarer or MORE important and nicer than this one. In fact, this poster is RARER than both style original Frankenstein one-sheets printed in 1931. John Alvin saved this poster himself shortly after it was printed. It is unlikely that any other original even exists. Extensive research was done on this poster and it was printed by a special silk screen process used for short print runs of  3 individual posters up to 200. These posters were made to be pasted up and not saved. This truly is a 1-Of-A-Kind. Many consider Young Frankenstein the greatest comedy ever made, certainly the best parody. Even funnier than the Marx Brothers Night At The Opera. I have copies of the Los Angles Times and The Daily News EXTENCIVE articles on Alvin and will include them in this auction. This poster was originally printed in sections and has been linen-mounted as to present the poster in one piece. BEST OF THE BEST! I will email a larger photo on request. I also have a lot of vintage classic posters for sale right now even more rare posters from The John Alvin Collection. Considered the pre-eminent movie campaign artist of the past 35 years, Alvin's career began in 1974 with his creation of the iconic movie poster for Mel Brook's "Blazing Saddles".  He most recently contributed design ideas for the campaign for Disney Studio's "Enchanted."  In a career that encompassed multiple projects for such directors as Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Blake Edwards, Mel Brooks and Ridley Scott, Alvin was considered by many studios as the go-to artist for movie poster and campaign art.  John Alvin said that his work "created the promise of a great experience" and in that he never failed.Alvin and his wife, Andrea, had recently relocated to New York's Hudson Valley from Los Angeles in order to be closer to their daughter and only child, Farah, a Broadway actress.   John Alvin said that as a child he eagerly anticipated the arrival of the Sunday paper so that he could peruse the ads for the new movies playing at the local theaters.  He was enamored with the magic of film at an early age and would create art inspired largely by his love of film.  That passion led him to the Art Center College of Design where he met his wife, Andrea (also a student at Art Center) from which he graduated in the early 1970s. His big break came with the job to create the movie poster for Mel Brook's "Blazing Saddles" in 1974. This campaign led to Alvin creating the images for numerous other Brook's films including "Young Frankenstein". His prominence in this medium was soon after established with his creation of the movie posters for Ridley Scott's "Blade Runner," Steven Spielberg's "E.T.-The Extra-Terrestrial" and Blake Edward's "Victor/Victoria."  Not only did Alvin create the movie posters for those particular films, but he also created many subsequent iconic film posters.  In all, Alvin created the posters for over 135 movies in a 35 year career. He is considered to be an innovator in this genre.Alvin's work is currently represented in several art galleries nationwide where his original paintings, drawings and limited edition fine art reproductions are displayed.  In his recent work, he continued to create iconic images for contemporary films like the Star Wars, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean series. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Food Bank Association of New York State or to your local Food Bank Association.###
