Description
Go to ImageShack® to Create your own Slideshow This is a Syroco-type Statuette from 1935, and probably came out right after the death of Will Rogers - a national tragedy. The artist who was responsible for this Statuette was a Swedish Immigrant and Artist - Carl Hallsthammar. He worked as 'New Deal' funded artist, through the WPA (Works Progress Administration). He was iffiliated with the University of Illinois, and carved bas-relief for the Library of the school. He studied at the Art Insitute of Chicago, and made a large impression at the 1937 National Exhibition of American Art (New York), where he submitted a Venus that was widely hailed by liberal critics as the finest work ever to win that prize. He was officially known as a sculptor, and wood figures. We have had many sets of eyes examine this item and are confident that the date stamped on the back of it is 1935 (the 3 is fuzzy - but we have determined it is in fact a 3, making it 1935) This figure offered for sales is extremely rare. We have not encountered any Will Rogers collectors who have ever seen one, much less known about it's existence. We have priced it appropriately due to it's rarity. We hope that if you are a state agency (such as in Oklahoma), or a Will Rogers Museum, that you will consider owning this amazing piece of history... it's breath-taking! Your satisfaction on this purchase will be fully guaranteed.
