Description
Ultra rare original 1988 Fillmore poster (essentially #F-00) for Alpha Blondy, Jah Big & Little Women at San Francisco's legendary Fillmore Auditorium's opening nightTHE FILLMORE PROUDLY PRESENTSREGGAE DANCE PARTYAFRICAN REGGAE STARALPHA BLONDYAND THE SOLAR SYSTEM WEST COAST DEBUT!PLUS JAH BIGAND LITTLE WOMENTHURS., MAR. 3, 8PM (1988)Design: Arlene OwseichekThis is the ACTUAL, ORIGINAL OPENING NIGHT POSTER for The Fillmore's historic re-opening under Bill Graham in 1988 (the first series there since its 60s heyday). It is in MINT condition. No collection of Fillmore memorabilia would be complete without this extremely hard to find specialty item. It is 13 1/2" by 8 1/2" printed on blue paper stock and features a provocative picture of Alpha Blondy with a model of the Eiffel Tower sticking out of his ear! The Midnight Dread Sound System also appeared. The night before Hot Tuna 'officially' began the pre-earthquake run of Bill Graham Presents' new concerts at San Francisco's famed Fillmore Auditorium, the then relatively unknown reggae performer, Alpha Blondy from Ivory Coast, appeared for what was supposed to be a low-key test run of the recently revamped venue. Instead, nearly a thousand music fans overflowed The Fillmore's 'sneak-peek premiere' to witness outstanding live reggae from local legends Jah Big & The Steppin' Razor Band plus Rocky Mountain reggae from Little Women & the simultaneous debut of Alpha Blondy, who would soon rival Bob Marley on the world scene. Many who saw both the Alpha and Hot Tuna shows said that Blondy's 'preview night' outshadowed the following night in both attendance & excitement. Since no 'official' commemorative poster was produced for March 3rd, this recently discovered ORIGINAL blue ivory flyer marks the historic event. At midnightdread.com you can hear & learn more about Midnight Dread Sound System, my radio shows, Man Of Constant Sorrow & Midnight Dread, plus sound samples, info on films, world music & much more.
