Description
Thank you for viewing my auction today. I am offering what may be the earliest original Johnny Cash signed performance contract ever offered on Ebay. The contract was signed by Johnny Cash as well as Ed McLemore who was in charge of the Dallas Sportatorium on March 24, 1956. The show was to take place on April 19, 1956 from 8 to 11 p.m. with a club date after the show. Johnny and band was to be paid $175.00. Please see the scans below that depict all aspects of the contract including the signatures. The last two scans pertain to Johnny's daughter Cindy Cash who states in her book titled " The Cash Family Scrapbook" that her contract signed in December of 1955 for the same concert venue was Johnny's first ever signed. The contract that I am offering quite possibly could be Johnny's third or fourth contract ever signed. Through my years of research, I know that Johnny signed with the Louisiana Hayride in January of 1956. That was probably his second contract signed. In between January and March of 1956 Johnny looks to have only played in a few small honky tonk clubs where not many contracts were probably offered at this time. If any at all. This was aquired many years ago from a gentleman who had many old artifacts from the Dallas Sportatorium. The contract itself is in pretty good shape. For many years it just remained folded in a file folder in a cabinet. 0n the reverse side there are just two small pieces of scotch tape on the parts that have been folded. I guess it was put there to keep it from tearing upon the folds. For many years I didn't even relaize that this tape was there. Very unnoticable. If you look at the scan below, of the reverse side of this contract, you can barely notice the two small pieces of tape that are there. That's how small they are. I just want to describe this as accurate as possible. This is a very nice documentation of our history. One must wonder what was going through Johnny's mind as he was signing this contract. He couldn't have had any idea of how big he was going to become. Some may recognize Ed McClemore's signature as it has adorned many of other contracts of music legends such as Jim Reeves and Elvis Presley. Please view my other auctions in the next coming weeks for more great musical memorabilia such as: Elvis Presley personal items; Jim Reeves personal items(straight from his estate); Original Roy Orbison concert posters; Carl Perkins unpublished pics, Jerry Lee Lewis signed contract, autographed items and many many more authentic well documented pieces of our history. Please view my positive feedback and bid with confidence. Please write with any questions. Please view the scans below. You can double click on the main scan and it will enlarge itself and allow you to see the imagein finer details.    Make me an offer that I can't refuse.
