Description
You are bidding on a story book from the 1950's drama (sitcom) Lassie, and there are a total of 18 pages in what appears to be pen and ink, photo, and pencil drawings. These are contained in the original 3-ring cardboard binder and sheet protectors. I am unsure of the exact year of the story book, but I believe 1956, the year I believe the show first aired on TV. For serious bidders the book is available for local viewing, or additional pages will be available by email upon request. Two different movie script collectors have looked at the book, and both have told me they have never seen one, which kind of leads me to believe this may be the only one not in a private collection, or in existence. The reserve on this item is set at $5,000.00 as the actual value is unknown, and all bids will be considered. Please note: our Uncle went to work for the studios in in 1948, retiring after establishing himself with Paramount at age 65, and passing away at age 84. This item along scripts and pictures were found in a box in his garage. This one item stood out, as I remember watching Lassie as a boy in black and white on an 8" TV with a bubble to magnify the picture. Shipping charges (48 states only) includes packing and packaging, insurance, and shipping charges. Other Bidder bidder locations, please email your zip code to me for actual shipping costs to your location. Seller reserves the right to sell to the high bidder, or relist this item in the event the high bid is unacceptable. Payment if made by casher's cheque, money order, or cash will call, shipping charges waived.. On Nov-25-08 at 06:43:52 PST, seller added the following information: Up dated information Lassie first aired in 1954, seeing 17 seasons with CBS. In the 1940' s Lassie was the main character in 6 MGM movies, and the trainer, Rudd Weatherwax, in lieu of back pay took all Lassie Trademarks. In 1957. Producer Robert Maxwell then convinced Weathermax on his idea of a Lassie television series. Two pilots were filmed in Alberta Canada. Jack Wrather purchased the Lassie Trademarks and shows production company. In 1957 a decision was made by Wrather to hire a new boy as Tommy Rettig was out growing the role, and interviewing for a replacement for a was unsuccessful. Wrather' s wife, on a tip from a friend, brought in 6 year old Jon Provost. Please keep in mind, the early days of Lassie were during the periods of McCarthyism and the House Un-American Activities Committee, and some of these writers included J. E. Shelby and Adrian Scott. Scott, one of the Hollywood Ten who went to prison for contempt of the U. S. Congress continued to write while incarcerated, with the help of his wife. By 1958 Cloris Leachman had a disagreement on set with co-works, and became unpopular with the viewers. The ratings had dropped, and in 1958 June Lockhart and Hugh Reilly were Brought in. Filming locations begun at KTTV's Stage One, and moved Desilu in 1957. Iverson Ranch in Chatsworth California, Kanab Movie Ranch in Kanab Utah, and Red Rock Canyon State Park in California were also used as filming locations. This all dates the story board (book) to about 1958, or approximately 60 yearsof age, which is further validated by the picture of Jon Provost at age 7 or 8.
