There were 9 in total of these awards made in 1935 to celebrate and commemorate 15 years of success for Columbia Pictures, after being the first company to successfully sweep the board at the Oscar’s for “It Happened One Night” These were commissioned by Frank Capra to give to department heads, They are made by R S Owen and Co the same company that makes the Academy Awards. These awards are as such Academy awards as they were made for AMPAS by RS Owens to give to Frank Capra to Honour his staff. The front plate reads:- "ACADEMY OF MOTION PICTURE ARTS AND SCIENCES / FIRST AWARD / COLUMBIA PICTURES / FOR THE BEST PICTURE OF THE YEAR." The rear plate reads :-"15TH ANNIVERSARY / COLUMBIA PICTURES / 1920-1935." I have had 3 of these awards, I sold one in Christies Memorabilia auction in November 2005, This award was bought by the Academy themselves to exhibit in the Margaret Herrick Library. I am selling this one to make way for other awards recently bought. All serious collectors know these are very rare and sort after items and will only gain more in value over the years.
